Spencer Bell's name deserves to be better known. He knew who he was and that he wanted to make people laugh. He knew that people would be laughing at him because he was black and therefore, in their eyes, stupid and inferior. He knew he would never be able to play a main character in a movie, but he stayed in the profession of acting anyway.
It is because of men like him that change ever occurs. If he hadn't fought for what he wanted, to be in the film industry, actors and comedians like Bill Crosby, Eddie Murphy, and Will Smith may not be the well-known, famous celebrities that they are, and many of us would miss out on some of the best jokes and films ever created.
Spencer Bell wasn't a civil rights activist or a super hero. He was just a man who wanted to make people laugh. Yet he opened the door to African-Americans being given equal acting rights, he paved history. And that makes him better than a super hero. He's a real hero.
